The Best New Thriller Movies of 2019—So Far
Has your humdrum life got you down? Exhausted from a day at the office, updating spreadsheets and avoiding mindless chitchat with your coworkers? Then direct your attention to the streaming video player of your choice, on which you can fire up Netflix and find a film that'll give you a little boost of excitement. From suspenseful dramas, psychological mind-benders, and gritty mysteries, here are the best thrillers to stream on Netflix right now. Martin Sheen stars as a disaffected Army captain who is tasked with a secret mission to go deep into the jungle and take out a Green Beret Colonel named Kurtz Marlon Brando , who has gone rogue and established himself as a local god. Tom Hanks, Kevin Bacon, and Bill Paxton star in this true story about the nearly doomed manned space mission to the Moon, in which a technical glitch left three astronauts dangerously close to being stranded in space. Sandra Bullock, Sarah Paulson, Trevante Rhodes, and John Malkovich star in this dystopian thriller and Netflix original film about a woman who must travel blindfolded along with her children to safety as an unseen force stalks them on their journey.
Here's my problem: I love getting spooked at movies—feeling anything heart-pounding, really—but I cannot stand gore. I find the use of excessive blood campy at best and exploitative at worst, and it makes me feel more nauseous than scared. For this reason, it's the rare horror movie I can actually stomach. But thriller movies? Thrillers I can do.
