The Toy Town Parade (Make Way For Noddy) by Enid BlytonIts time for the annual Toy Town parade and Master Tubby Bear spots Noddy and asks if he has forgotten what day it is. When Noddy tells him that he hasnt forgotten, Tubby asks Noddy why he is not down at the Town Hall to see it all begin.
Noddy tells Tubby Bear that he has to pick up Big-Ears first and while he sets off to pick him up, Tubby Bear heads for the Town Hall declaring that he will be at the front leading the parade. When Noddy picks up Big-Ears they head to the Town Hall with Noddy being so excited that he sings a song about the parade.
When they arrive, the crowds are gathering and Mr Plod is trying to get some form of order but nobody is listening to him until he exerts himself and shouts at the top of his voice through his hailer, Quiet! But when he asks who will lead the parade, everybody shouts that they want to lead it. Martha Monkey, Mr Wobbly Man, Master Tubby Bear and Skippy Skittle all want to be first.
Noddy does not shout with the others for he declares himself to be happy at any position and Big-Ears declares himself very proud of Noddy for taking that sensible approach. Mr Jumbo then suggests that a vote be taken but Noddy suggests that they should let Big-Ears decide and Mr Plod agrees.
Big-Ears thinks about it and decides that Noddy should lead the parade because he had not cared whether he would have been first or last. Everybody accepts this and applauds and Noddy says, Thank you, Big-Ears. And thank you, all my friends for letting me be first!
Miss Pink Cat is number two, Tessie Bear is number three, Master Tubby Bear is number four and Martha Monkey is number five. They then go over to the Ice Cream Parlour and line up for the parade to begin. Noddy drives up to the front in his car and leads the parade.
Each of the participants does some tricks as they march along and eventually head back to the Town Hall where Bumpy Dog is alone and waiting to greet them, as everybody else is taking part in the parade. Big-Ears chats with the sad looking Bumpy Dog and tells him Maybe next year, you can be in the parade too, and well all watch you! Bumpy is happy with that suggestion.
... and another exciting day in Toy Town comes to an end ...
