Dec 19, AM. Hi Everyone, I teach fifth grade and was wondering if you could recommend new fantasy books that may spark the interest of reluctant fantasy readers, other than the favorites of Happy Potter, Percy Jackson etc. Thanks in advance. Dec 19, PM. It's not a series and it's only fantasy because there is a leprachaun in the story, but Bill Brittain's All the Money in the World is one that my students always loved.

Print book list. In both stories, a teenage character is stranded in the wilderness following a plane crash. In I Am the Ice Worm , year-old Allison is rescued from the Alaskan wild by an Inupiat trapper, who takes her to his village to stay until she can be reunited with her mother. Find I Am the Ice Worm at your local library. The story is about Brian, 13, and how he manages to survive 54 days in the Canadian wilderness after a plane crash. Brian was flying to visit his father when the pilot dies of a heart attack in mid-flight.

Fantasy is my jam so of course now that I have a child, I want her to have all the fantasy things. Thankfully, there are plenty of fantasy books for kids out there. But that can also be overwhelming. My time as the young adult and middle grade shelver at work and as a middle school reading tutor showed me how hard it is for parents to find age-appropriate material for their kids. And publishers are rarely helpful with their age delineations: 6—10 years, 1st grade—7th, etc.
