I Dont Like Mondays: Female Rampage Killers by Sylvia PerriniI DON’T LIKE MONDAYS.”
The Famous hit song “I don’t like Mondays” penned by Bob Geldof, was written after the school shootings in San Diego, California, committed by Brenda Spencer. Once she was apprehended and asked why she had done it. Her reply was:
“I dont like Mondays this kind of livens up the day”
When one thinks of spree killers or rampage killers, normally one thinks of a male. Men such as the Aurora Colorado Movie Theater James Eagan Holmes, Seung-Hui Cho Virginia Tech Massacre, Columbine school killers Eric David Bennet and Dylan Bennet Klebold, Adam Lanza at Sandy Hook Elementary School, and the 2011 massacre at a summer camp in Norway, by Anders Behring Breivik to name just a few.
Yet, women have also committed these crimes just not in such large numbers as men.
Welcome to the world of the Female Rampage Killer.
Hey, our system thinks you're a bot.
The principal and a custodian were killed; eight children and a police officer were injured. A year-old girl, Brenda Spencer, who lived in a house across the street from the school, was convicted of the shootings. Charged as an adult, she pleaded guilty to two counts of murder and assault with a deadly weapon , and was given an indefinite sentence. As of September , [update] she remains in prison. A reporter reached Spencer by phone while she was still in the house after the shooting, and asked her why she did it.
While Bob Geldof 's philanthropic efforts remain his greatest contribution to humanity, it should be remembered that he was also the frontman for the Boomtown Rats. That morning, Brenda Spencer, a year-old with a history of petty theft and violent thoughts, opened fire from inside her house at students outside San Diego's Grover Cleveland Elementary School across the street. In a minute spell, she fired 30 rounds of ammunition from a semi-automatic. Principal Burton Wragg and custodian Mike Schar were killed in the attack; eight children and a policeman were wounded. Spencer, who had told classmates a week before that she "wanted to do something big to get on TV," then locked herself in the house as the SWAT team descended. The standoff lasted nearly seven hours before Spencer finally surrendered.
According to Geldof, he wrote the song after reading a telex report at Georgia State University's campus radio station, WRAS, on the shooting spree of year-old Brenda Ann Spencer, who fired at children in a school playground at Grover Cleveland Elementary School in San Diego, California, USA on 29 January , killing two adults and injuring eight children and one police officer. Spencer showed no remorse for her crime and her full explanation for her actions was "I don't like Mondays. This livens up the day". I was doing a radio interview in Atlanta with [Johnnie] Fingers and there was a telex machine beside me. I read it as it came out. Not liking Mondays as a reason for doing somebody in is a bit strange. I was thinking about it on the way back to the hotel and I just said 'Silicon chip inside her head had switched to overload'.
