Child Development: Theory and Practice 0-11 by Jonathan Doherty

This is the best book I have found regarding taking child development from early years through to 11.

Doherty discusses all the relevant child development theories you will need when observing and working with children from the ages of 0 - 11. The level this book reads makes it academically sound for a those studying at degree or masters and is beautifully laid out with charts pictures as well as strong comprehensive material, studies and augments for papers.

Whilst writing a child observation paper, I found it really difficult to source strong references for child development theories beyond early years. with a strong reference section, you can explore deeper into theorists and journals to broaden your academic knowledge. However this book stands out on its own merit. Totally recommend it for anyone working with children and families. from the classroom to social work. A gem of a find.
