Paradigms of Artificial Intelligence Programming: Case Studies in Common LISP by Peter Norvig

Paradigms of AI Programming is the first text to teach advanced Common Lisp techniques in the context of building major AI systems. By reconstructing authentic, complex AI programs using state-of-the-art Common Lisp, the book teaches students and professionals how to build and debug robust practical programs, while demonstrating superior programming style and important AI concepts. The author strongly emphasizes the practical performance issues involved in writing real working programs of significant size. Chapters on troubleshooting and efficiency are included, along with a discussion of the fundamentals of object-oriented programming and a description of the main CLOS functions. This volume is an excellent text for a course on AI programming, a useful supplement for general AI courses and an indispensable reference for the professional programmer.

Introduction to Programming in Lisp

LISP - Overview

Prolog is a logic programming language associated with artificial intelligence and computational linguistics. Prolog has its roots in first-order logic , a formal logic , and unlike many other programming languages , Prolog is intended primarily as a declarative programming language: the program logic is expressed in terms of relations, represented as facts and rules. A computation is initiated by running a query over these relations. The language was first conceived by Alain Colmerauer and his group in Marseille, France, in the early s and the first Prolog system was developed in by Colmerauer with Philippe Roussel. Prolog was one of the first logic programming languages, [7] and remains the most popular among such languages today, with several free and commercial implementations available.

AI has brought another level of smart technology to different industries and the prospects of its potential still grows with the expectation that it would reach the human intelligence. This is because developers are willing to explore, experiment and implement its capabilities to satisfy more of the human and organization necessities. After all, necessity is the mother of invention. Just like in the development of most software applications , a developer has a variety of languages to use in writing AI. However, there is no perfect programming language to point as the best programming language used in artificial intelligence.

  1. There are primarily two computer languages used in artificial intelligence work, LISP and PROLOG. LISP, which is short for List Processing, was created by John .

  2. On the first hand, it may look surprising that Lisp and Prolog are used even today. Lisp is usually known in the context of Lisp-machines which.
