Tradara McLaurine (Author of Why Daddy Works)Hello Everyone,
I always had a dream of becoming an author. As a child I wrote poetry and episodes for Kenan & Kel and Family Matters. I thought they were pretty good but they never made it to prime time :) Writing was more of an outlet for me and I never thought to make a career of it because I enjoyed it too much and it was something sacred to me. Im pretty private so creating a website and a book is out of my comfort zone. I currently work with college students and I frequently tell them that the best place for learning is outside of your comfort zone so here I am. I gotta practice what I preach. So Why Parents Work...In 2015, my husband and I welcomed our second child. I thought I had this working mother thing down until my son joined the team and then things changed. While learning to balance being a mother to two children and working my husband began working a very demanding job and my daugther didnt understand the change. She was missing her daddy and so was I. So I went back to my roots and started writing. I wrote Why Daddy Works and inserted pictures of our family to help tell the story and ultimately connect Daddy to everything that we did while he was working. We read this story every time we began to miss Daddy.
My Granny was with us one night when I read the story and she said Tradara, this is a really good story. You should try to get it published because I am sure there are other parents and children in the same situation. Fast forward two years and here we are. I have published Why Daddy Works and Why Mommy Works for families who have similar situations to mine and want to explain it to their children in a fun and interactive way. I hope that these books bring your family joy and serve as a nice keepsake for years to come. I know I still enjoy looking at mine.
