The Holy Quran: Text, Translation and Commentary by Abdullah Yusuf Ali

I love the Holy Quran and I like Abdullah Yusuf Ali translation. He was the best.

I will review the Holy Quran differently like I always do on other books because this one is special. The pages in this Quran are divided in two. On the left, the English translation and on the right the Arabic. Below the two, there is one column for commentary.

The only issue is the text size for the commentary and details is very small, which can affect your eyes.

I read the commentary only when needed, all I care is the English part.

English Translation Of Holy Quran - 4. An-Nisa' (the Women) - Muhammad Awais Malik

The Holy Quran with English translation and commentary is a 5 volume commentary of the Quran published in by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. In the introduction to the work, stating the need for a modern English commentary, Mirza Mahmood Ahmad explained that all the large and systematic commentaries were in Arabic and thus of little use to those who cannot read the Quran in Arabic. Explanatory notes to their translations by non-Muslim authors had been influenced by writers who were prejudiced towards Islam.

The Holy Quran: Arabic Text, English Translation and Commentary

This is not an exhaustive survey of all English translations; we have only mentioned some important or popular ones from the past and present. Although we have included more than thirty-five English language translations of the Quran online, none of them is entirely satisfactory and some are extremely unreliable. Yusuf Alis and Marmaduke Pickthalls translations are reasonably accurate but not very consistent the former is more accurate of the two, but both are generally reliable. Nevertheless, if you prefer modern English, the translation by Shakir and Irving are serviceable and Arberry and Dawood among the non-Muslim translations. In the following year, a Jew of Iraqi origin and a translator by profession Niseem Joseph Dawood, produces his translation, The Koran in 5th revised ed. Compared with many available translations at the time, he somehow succeeded his stated aim to make the language modern and readable.

Caner Dagli, Maria Dakake , and Joseph Lumbard prepared the translation, wrote the commentary, and also served as general editors, and Mohammed Rustom contributed as an assistant editor. Alongside a new English translation and extensive commentary, The Study Quran features numerous essays, maps, and other material. The idea of an English-language Quran for scholars and students was originally proposed to Nasr by HarperOne then HarperSanFrancisco , who wanted Nasr as the editor-in-chief. Nasr initially declined, but after the publisher told him that the book would not happen without him, he felt obligated to lead the project. Nasr had several conditions for the work: firstly, that it would avoid modernistic and fundamentalist interpretations of the Quran, instead favouring a range of traditional interpretations. He also insisted that all the editors would be Muslim. Sections of the translation and commentary were apportioned to the three editors, who worked under the oversight of Nasr and in consultation with each other to preserve the unity of the project.
