Jesus Boy by Preston L. Allen

I absolutely loved this book! Preston Allen wrote a purely classic novel with this story. Church going folk will especially enjoy this novel as well. Many of cultures and issues within the African American church appear within the story. This book also has a similar theme as James Baldwins classic first novel, Go Tell It on The Mountain. In which, he writes about a young Black man growing up in a holy roller church while dealing with the pressures of the secular world.
Jesus Boy is definitely worth the read and will not disappoint.

The significance of Jesus is bound to be different for Christians and for non-Christians. Also, Christians in the modern world are going to see him differently, in some ways, from Christians years ago.

How to Vote

By: Preston L. Surely no one does church sexy like Allen. It would be easy for Jesus Boy to become fluffy satire but Allen keeps his characters real. Perfect timing and crackling dialogue, as well as heartrending pain balanced by uproarious predicaments, make for a shout-hallelujah tale of transgression and grace, a gospel of lusty and everlasting love. No novel should be this enthralling.

In this work the author seeks to fill in the "lost" years of Jesus through the eyes of Jesus' childhood pal, " Levi bar Alphaeus who is called Biff". In a special gift edition was published, with a second afterword by Moore, recollecting his trip to Israel for research. Biff is resurrected in the 20th Century to complete missing parts of the Bible , under the inefficient supervision of Raziel ; wherefore Biff narrates that he and Joshua by Biff's account, the Hebrew original of the Hellenized "Jesus" travel Eastward to consult the Three Wise Men a magician , a Buddhist , and a Hindu Yogi who attended Joshua's birth, so that Joshua may learn how to become the Messiah. Over twenty years, Joshua surpasses the trio by incorporating his beliefs into theirs: he learns to multiply food from a Wise Man and learns to become invisible from another, whereas his ability to resurrect the dead, initiates his first meeting with Biff in childhood. Throughout his role, Biff is sarcastic, practical, and loyal, against Joshua's temperamental and sometimes idealistic character.
